Hey Class of 2013!
There has been some confusion as to what Career Dialogues actually are. Hopefully this clears it up.
Who: These sessions are for YOU! All students in the College of Medicine are welcome to attend and learn more about the different specialties of medicine. These are most important for first and second year students to get exposure to the many different fields of medicine early on in the game.
Also, if you're wondering how to find people to shadow, come to these sessions as most doctors are more than happy to give out contact info.
What: Career Dialogues are short (~1 hr) sessions in which a physician from a particular specialty gives an informal presentation about various aspects of their jobs. Some topics include: scope of practice, likes, dislikes, residency training, salary, lifestyle, etc. Following the presentation students are encouraged to ask questions. They are very informal so don't be afraid to speak up.
When: These are held almost every Thursday for the entire year from 12:30 to 1:30
Where: For term one, all sessions will be held in Room B6
Why: These are part of the College of Medicine's Career Development Program. Choosing a career in medicine can be daunting but these sessions are a great way to learn about what each specialty is all about.
The first one is TODAY for Pathology in Room B6 so come on out!
See you there,
Janet Ferguson
