Horizons 2009

This big event takes place every two years and is put on by the SMSS and the SMA.

When: Saturday, October 31st but everything will be wrapped up by 3:30 PM giving you all plenty of time to prepare your stellar costumes.

Where: Sheraton Cavalier.

Here’s why you should come:

  • Learn about the wide array of specialties in medicine: We have 16 different physicians, representing nearly every specialty, who will each give a talk on what a career in their field is like. This will be a practical, open discussion on what you really want to know. Even if you are pretty sure of what you want to do, come learn about that field you never really understood. You will get to choose 4 of these sessions.
  • Meet your mentor: All of the physicians attending are passionate about mentoring and advising. Looking for someone to shadow or do a Dean’s project with? This is a good place to start.
  • Get inspired: Our keynote speakers this year are former CMA-President Dr. Peter Barrett, and our current Minister of Health, the Hon. Don McMorris. Both are excellent speakers
  • Get informed: Take a walk through the “Saskatchewan job fair”, highlighting career opportunities available right here. This is the place to set up some shadowing or for spending time in any of the health regions throughout Saskatchewan. Or just pick up some free stuff.
  • Good eats: The Sheraton will be catering both breakfast and lunch, and the menu is looking pretty good.
  • Have some fun: Just hanging out with other students and physicians.
Jon Dautremont and Jonathan Bastian will be handing out registration forms in class, and will be in MUMPS at lunch each day to collect these forms.

Limited spots to attend so get them in quick!
