Updates [PLEASE READ]

Dear homies (Apparently a synonym for friend),

I wish to update you on a couple of things and I am sorry if you were previously unaware of their existence. Please save this e-mail as a document by clicking here, if you would like. Thanks to everyone for your suggestions and we would like to inform you that Karl and I are woking on resolving them as soon as possible. One of the suggestions was to have birthdays displayed on our Lucky 13 calendar, so for those of you who do not mind sharing your birthday with us, please e-mail me your birthday and I will add it to the calendar and as an incentive, you know I will bring gifts if I know in advance (SCENTED CANDLES!). The visual calendar will be posted tomorrow on the MED I announcements bulletin board and will have events, assignments, birthdays, and anything you feel the class can know like House (Season 6) opening episode. Finally, I will inform you of what is happening in the SMSS meetings (minutes linked in the blog) because I like to have transparency.

1. .COM Newsletter
The SMSS newsletter, .COM, has been uploaded to the blog and to the SMSS documents section. You can download the file by clicking here.

2. Breach of Professionalism Policy
I apologize for not sending it out earlier but I did not know if Faculty Council documents could be sent to the class or not but anyway, please have a read through the document and e-mail, text, or inform either me or Karl your concerns. I wish to bring to your notice that the notice of motion for this document is tomorrow and Karl and I would love to address your concerns at the meeting. I would love to highlight the important information in the document but I think it is essential that every word be scrutinized, so please have a look as it determines our actions in the future.

3. Reminder
Peer Assessment Orientation is tomorrow from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM in B3. Click the link to learn more about the Pilot Project. While it is not mandatory for you to attend, I think it would be nice to see a good turnout if we want to make our case in the presence of Dr. Kendel (CPSS), Dr. Doig (CMA President), Dr. Linassi (UGME coordinator), Dr. Harding, and Marcel.

4. Flickr
I have opened a Flickr account for our class which can only be viewed by people who have the username and password (ASK DRUVTEJ) after I tweak the settings. PLEASE DO NOT SHARE THIS WITH ANYONE. I was debating whether Facebook or Flickr is better but I think I will leave the option to you. I will maintain it for as long as possible.

5. Posting anonymously to the blog
You can now post anonymously to the blog without requiring to sign in. All you have to do is send an e-mail to the address (ASK DRUVTEJ) and the message will appear exactly as it is in the e-mail. AGAIN, PLEASE DO NOT SHARE THIS WITH ANYONE as they may be able to then post without any screening. You may choose to remain anonymous or write down your name at the bottom of the e-mail message. I think this would be highly useful to individuals [in our class] involved in groups such as ARRH and FMC who can now directly post to the blog without going through me. When trying to post, please do not forget the subject of e-mail.

6. Secret Santa
I am sorry if some people found me as paternalistic or dominating but I thought it would be nice for our class to have one and again, if you do not wish to be in the Secret Santa, please e-mail me. If I do not have you down, then YOU ARE IN THE PROGRAM BY DEFAULT. I will send you the name of the person who you will be buying a gift for. If anybody has suggestions to improve it or make it better, or concerns, please give me a shout. To make it fair for everyone, please limit the dollar value of your gift or gifts to $15. We will be exchanging them on December 3rd, the last day of classes.

7. MEDGAMES Payment
Please remember that the deadline for MEDGAMES payment is tomorrow. Please submit a cheque or cash to either me or Ashley. I am sorry if I have to keep asking, nagging, or harassing but it would make our lives much better if we had all the finances in hand by tomorrow.

CHEQUE or CASH
PAY to: SMSS
Amount: $125

8. Friday Role Playing Information [Message from Marcel]
What: Doctors are Teachers: Teaching Patients
When: November 20 from 8:30-10:20
Please note: Drs. Malin and Gagne will lead this session. Three (or more) role plays. Please bring materials that may be suitable when teaching patients about the Great Plate, obesity and weight control/loss, and cardiac failure from the Integrative Case.

The session on November 26 from 3:30-4:20 is CANCELLED

9. Integrative Cases tomorrow

10. Movember
I wish to thank everyone in our class, girls included, to be involved in Movember. I wish to apologize to the guys for not asking them if they would like to tailor their moustaches according to the class's wishes (Sorry Paul) but if you do not mind, I would love to see the class get involved and choose how they would like us to grow it! I will send an e-mail, hopefully, tonight to the people who signed up to donate. Please give me your donations so that I can pass it onto Mel, who can then tabulate them to compare them with upper years. It would be nice if we raised the most but I do not want to put pressure because I am having a feeling that I am being overwhelmed with fundraising and donations in just three months even though I may not have donated that much.

11. Lucky 13's Calendar
Just everything that is going on in Med School plus ASSIGNMENTS AND IMPORTANT LINKS and nothing else.

SMSS meeting [Salient information]
1. So, apparently we should have seen our Opscan sheets with the answer key at the previous review session. I have sent our concerns to Afra, VP Academic including the suggestions in the suggestion box. The SMSS would like to keep pushing the idea for us to see the Opscan sheets with the answer key. If you have any other concerns, please inform and I will pass it onto Afra.

2. Fill the log books in RUH-4th floor rooms so that they remain in use.
============================================

Thank you and sorry for the long e-mail
